House research at the County Archives

This afternoon, Andy and I drove to Llandrindod Wells to the County Archives to see if we could dig up any more info on the house.
It was really interesting to see maps dating from 1884 with Haddef on it. We also checked out the census records and various historical books. We haven't yet been able to work out who lived in our house, even after reading the 1881 census, because the houses are numbered in Severn Place, and we have no idea what number ours was! Fortunately there aren't that many, I think 11 dwellings in total, but we will still need to do some more sleuthing to work it out. There is still no whiff of an older name for Haddef (which is actually pronounced Hathev in Welsh). At the moment, we are thinking we may need to settle on something like "Severn Place House", as it is the only house remaining of those that were in the original Severn Place.
We both enjoyed it, even though we didn't find out anything startlingly new.
We followed it up with close encounters with red kites and even closer encounters with fish and chips in Rhayader! A great day!
